Bertrand Seube, Oenologist

Since 2008, Bertrand Seube has been putting his expertise at the service of Tonnellerie Remond's clients. A former estate oenologist, he understands the aspirations and demands of winemakers from the inside. This invaluable experience now shapes his vision of consultancy: an approach rooted in listening, mutual trust, and a finely tuned sensitivity to the barrel's role in revealing great wines. Portrait.

"Being an oenologist is of course a scientific background and scientific advice, but above all it's about relationships and listening to our clients. When we sell a barrel, we're not selling an ordinary container: we're selling, in a way, a cradle that will serve the creation of a great wine."

For Bertrand, wine is first and foremost a family story. From his childhood, he keeps the ritual of the great Bordeaux wines opened at Sunday lunches. This first emotion unconsciously shaped his calling. Initially trained in plant biology, then graduated in oenology in Toulouse, he quickly developed a passion for the magic of winemaking and wine aging. His career was forged at the heart of Bordeaux's great growths, at Baron Philippe de Rothschild, where he gained a full understanding of the rigor that great wine demands. Languedoc then offered him a magnificent terrain for expression. As Technical Director of Vignobles Lorgeril for twelve years, he shaped the profiles of wines through strategic élevage choices. At the time, Tonnellerie Remond was already his partner of choice.

When he joined Maison Remond in 2008, Bertrand immediately embraced its values: the exclusive use of French oak from sustainably managed forests, and a commitment to bespoke craftsmanship. For him, the barrel goes beyond the notion of a container: it is the delicate cradle where the wine continues its construction. Grasping a winemaker's vision, guiding their choices, and bringing them the most fitting answer: that is the essence of his craft. Thanks to his background in the cellar, he speaks the same language as his counterparts, guides their practices, and even takes part, for some estates, in the blending process.

Over the years, Bertrand has supported the cooperage's clients, both in France and internationally, notably in Austria and Italy. More recently, the development of the Remond Spirits range has also allowed him to reconnect with his first love for the world of spirits. Time and practice have taught him that beyond scientific rigor, the oenologist's profession demands great humility in the face of nature. It is this same philosophy that Tonnellerie Remond shares. While the excellence of the barrel remains an essential prerequisite, the real added value lies in the intangible: listening, advice, and trust.

Through Bertrand's gaze, the signature of Maison Remond is expressed: this unique ability to combine mastery of wood, intimate understanding of wine, and respect for the winemaker to guide each vintage towards its most authentic expression.
